This week, was a self discovery of my learning as there were many ways to assess individual learning styles. I enjoyed discovering new things about myself and will strive to keep my new learning ball rolling! Following, is my response to Week One's activities and my results from online quizzes.
"Learning never exhausts the mind" - Leonardo da Vinci
Aleesha.
PART ONE-
Reflective- I learn better by myself and by thinking through things first.
Verbal- I get more from learning when I have written and spoken explanations.
Sequential- I gain understanding by following each step in a logical succession.
ACTIVE X REFLECTIVE
11 9 7 5 3 1 1 3 5 7 9 11
<-- -->
SENSING X INTUITIVE
11 9 7 5 3 1 1 3 5 7 9 11
<-- -->
VISUAL X VERBAL
11 9 7 5 3 1 1 3 5 7 9 11
<-- -->
SEQUENTIAL X GLOBAL
11 9 7 5 3 1 1 3 5 7 9 11
<-- -->
I believe the results from this particular test were accurate and very informative. I was already aware of being a verbal learner and having to think things through first however discovering that I learnt best when steps were in a sequential order was very interesting.
PART TWO-
-Musical (design, interpret, sequence, associate, perceive)
-Logical (analyse, extract, evaluate, solve, order)
-Linguistic (articulate, state, compose, verbalise, communicate)
-Visual (visualise, contruct, design, conceive, represent)
The use of ICTs can help to support my mulitiple intelligences by providing visual and verbal explanations, using interactive features and being able to order information sequentially.
PART THREE-
I believe that learners today are very technologically based, with socialising being the biggest contributing factor- mobile phones, social networks and internet websites. They are so in sync with ideas, that they forget how to talk to someone face to face. In saying this, it is not the educator’s duty to discriminate against this ‘new world’ of technology, but to incorporate it with real life learning. Educators need to use it to their advantage to ‘engage’ their learners, while bringing the important pieces of learning forward.
I agree that there is substance to the “engage or enrage” argument. Educators should listen to their learners and their needs, so they can cater to them efficiently. What is the point of using older teaching methods if learners are not taking anything in? Educators need to incorporate technology into learning so learners are engaged, yet have the authority to pull them back when they have unrealistic expectations on their learning experiences.
